The dry Balthasar Ress Rheingau Riesling cuvée "RESSpekt" in the special edition limited to 50 magnums, signed by Markus Storck and Christian Ress.

The grapes for Riesling RESSpekt come from a selection of the best grapes from various parcels of land in Rüdesheimer Berg, which are owned by Balthasar Ress. The soils in Rüdesheimer Berg Rottland and Berg Schlossberg are characterised by sparse slate and quartzite. They produce mineral, spicy and racy wines. The steep hillside location and the strong sunshine produce excellent quality. In addition to exceptionally good and healthy grapes, such a wine requires courage, a willingness to take risks and trust in nature.

Even before the harvest, we focus on reducing the yield in order to increase the quality and ripeness of the individual berries. The grape harvest was carried out by selective manual harvesting in several passages. The grapes are transported as gently as possible in containers that can be tipped out over the press. This means that there is no need for any mashing or pumping processes. After a long maceration period, the must is fermented spontaneously, without the addition of aromatic or pure yeasts. After a long period of storage on the full yeast, the wine is finally bottled unfiltered and finally remains in the bottle for some time before being put on sale.

The "RESSpekt" forms the top of the "Black Label Range", which stands for the Natural Wines range in Balthasar Ress' assortment. Wines that are produced according to old traditions and give new facets to classic white wines.

"Certainly the world's most famous and influential wine critic, Robert Parker, gave this wine 93 points and wrote: "The wine displays a clear, very ripe and stewed Riesling aroma on the nose with some cool wet stone flavors. Full-bodied, round and powerful on the palate, this is an elegant, very aromatic and fruit intense Riesling full of tension and wild expression. Provided with a fine acidity, a firm structure and very good length, this compact and complex Riesling benefits a lot from massive aeration (days are better than hours here)".

A young man by the name of Balthasar founded the "Gasthof Ress" on Hauptstraße in Hattenheim, thus laying the foundation stone not only for a long gastronomic tradition and hospitality in the Rheingau, but also for today's VDP Balthasar Ress Winery. Since 1870, the Ress family has lived in the tradition of being good hosts and creating fine moments with fine wines. With the 2019 vintage, the family completed the conversion phase to organic farming and is now an ecologically certified business.

The first contact between Markus Storck and Balthasar Ress Owner and Managing Director Christian Ress took place at the wineBANK Rheingau, and this led to a long-standing friendship. For many years, Storck and Ress have been working on joint projects, such as the "One of Seven wine" or with their own Storck events at Balthasar Ress. Since both Storck and Balthasar Ress are celebrating their 25th and 150th anniversaries respectively, this cooperation has come about through a limited special edition of wine and gin. Balthasar Ress himself was involved in the Storck 25-year company celebrations by serving drinks.
